Are you a teacher, scholar, mosque, or community with a story to share?
-----------------------------
The name Allah — written in Arabic as ٱللَّٰه / الله — is the Arabic word for God, the One God, used by Muslims and also by Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews. It is not a tribal slogan, political weapon, or private possession. It is a sacred name pointing to the One Creator, the One worthy of worship, the Lord of mercy, justice, truth, and all existence. (Encyclopedia Britannica)
In Islam, the Qur’an declares: “He is Allah—One” and teaches that there is none comparable to Him. It also proclaims: “Allah! There is no god worthy of worship except Him, the Ever-Living, All-Sustaining.” (Quran.com) The word Allah is generally understood by many scholars as related to al-ilāh, meaning “the God” or “the Deity,” though scholars have discussed the exact linguistic history with care. For this reason, this website will not pretend to settle every scholarly detail by itself. Instead, ALLAH.Africa invites qualified Muslim scholars, Arabic linguists, historians, theologians, and sincere people of faith to help preserve accuracy, reverence, and unity. The Arabic letters of الله are:
Alif — ا
Lām — ل
Lām — ل
Hā’ — ه
In written Arabic, the name is treated with special reverence. In vocalized form, it may appear with signs showing pronunciation, including the strengthened lām and the long ā sound. But the deepest meaning of the name is not found by inventing secret meanings for each letter.
Allah is the name by which Arabic-speaking believers refer to the One God, the Creator, the Lord, the Merciful, the Sustainer, and the Judge of all humanity. The Qur’an describes Allah with names as: Knower of the unseen and seen, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful, the Sovereign, the Holy, the Source of Peace, the Creator, the Fashioner. NOTE:
ALLAH.Africa exists for peace, scholarship, reverence, and service. It is not created to misuse a divine name, start arguments, or divide people. It is created in the spirit of Ummah — community — and in the hope that people who believe in One God can read, study, listen, and work together with humility.
This work is also personal. It honors a promise connected to a Christian theologian and father who believed that people would understand one another better if they simply read their holy books carefully. His conviction was that truth does not fear truth, and that sincere study should reduce fighting, confusion, and religious shenanigans.
ALLAH.Africa therefore seeks partnerships across Africa and the world: scholars, imams, teachers, historians, Arabic experts, community leaders, and people of goodwill. The purpose is not ownership of the sacred, but stewardship of a platform that points people toward reverence, learning, prayer, fasting, charity, discipline, compassion, and the worship of the One God.
We need qualified scholars for our Sunday school.
Closing Notes
May this effort to restore never misuse the Holy - Serve knowledge, unity, love, and reverence.
Honor ALLAH THE GOD with humility, accuracy, and peace and other languages known.
Amen.
